Lawmakers Push to Redirect 40 Billion UAH to Military Arms: Proposed Changes to the 2026 Budget.
Initiative by European Solidarity MPs
According to Espreso.tv: Members of parliament from the European Solidarity party are proposing amendments to Ukraine’s 2026 state budget, demanding that 40 billion UAH be returned to the Ministry of Defense for weapons procurement. Their proposal also stresses the need to restrict use of the Reserve Fund, arguing these funds should be reserved exclusively for addressing war-related consequences and emergency situations.
The government has failed to follow through on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s directive to raise military pay for Armed Forces personnel from 250,000 to 400,000 UAH. In response, lawmakers believe it is crucial to identify additional resources for the army. So far, an extra 7 billion UAH has been located, which should go toward troop salaries and actual military expenditures. Furthermore, the budget already allocates 4 billion UAH for the 'Thousand-Year' program.
Lawmakers’ Proposals
The deputies also suggest increasing to 20% the share of military personal income tax (PIT) revenues allocated to individual brigades. European Solidarity leader Petro Poroshenko emphasized:
“We intend to correct this injustice immediately,” he stated, underscoring the importance of enacting these amendments to support the army and meet its needs.
This push by European Solidarity MPs highlights the pressing challenges Ukraine faces in the military domain and the urgent need for adequate funding of the Armed Forces. Given the ongoing hostilities and rising defense costs, securing sufficient military financing has become ever more critical for the state. Debate over the proposed amendments could significantly reshape national budget priorities during wartime.
