The state closes the monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate: reasons for the decision.
According to inkorr.com: The State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience has revealed signs of connection between the Korytsky Holy Trinity Women's Monastery of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian Orthodox Church. As reported by
“Glavkom”referring to the press service of the DSS, this investigation began in July 2025.
Connection of the monastery with the ROC
The study revealed several signs indicating the monastery's affiliation with the Russian Orthodox Church. Firstly, the statutes of the Korytsky Monastery contain provisions confirming its subordination to this structure. Secondly, the decisions of the governing bodies of the ROC clearly outline the canonical and organizational dependence of the monastery. The Russian Orthodox Church has the authority to appoint the head of the monastery and approve its statutes.
“Based on the conclusions obtained, the DSS ordered measures to be taken to terminate the activities of the Korytsky Monastery, whose leadership center is located on the territory of the aggressor state and which belongs to the banned by law ROC,” the message states.
According to the press service, this decision was made within the framework of current Ukrainian legislation to protect national security, constitutional order, and the religious freedom of citizens.
Additional Information
It should be reminded that the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience has filed a lawsuit to terminate the activities of the Moscow Church, which has been recognized as affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church.
Additionally, the State Service made changes to the list of legal entities – religious organizations critical to the economy and ensuring the livelihoods of the population during special periods.
The identification of the Korytsky Monastery's affiliation with the ROC and the decision to close it is part of the efforts of the Ukrainian state to protect national security. It emphasizes the importance of monitoring religious organizations that may threaten relations with Russia and the security of the country amid ongoing aggression.
