Businessman's Daughter Takes on Shahed Drones: A Volunteer's Role in Air Defense.
Elizaveta's Service in a Volunteer Unit
According to TSN.ua: Elizaveta, the daughter of businessman Garik Korogodsky, is serving a three-year contract in a volunteer formation. Her duties involve patrolling airspace and shooting down hostile 'Shahed' drones. She completed military training last year, which prepared her for this role. This form of civilian volunteerism has become a significant part of Ukraine's defense strategy since the full-scale invasion began.
Elizaveta notes that she receives no salary for her service. She covers all operational expenses from her own funds, including the fuel for the pickup truck mounted with the machine gun used to target the drones.
"We even pay for the fuel for the pickup truck with the machine gun ourselves, the one we use to shoot down the 'Shaheds.' There is no salary there," she states.
Elizaveta's Financial Independence
To support herself financially, Elizaveta earns money through Instagram advertising.
"Right now, I earn from my self-realization on Instagram. I run a blog and earn money from advertising there," she adds. However, her decision to enlist was not an easy one.
"This is a very sensitive topic for me. It's difficult for me to talk about. The first reason I decided to go... I don't have the means to donate in the amounts that would make me feel I had done something. These are small donations I can afford," Elizaveta explains. She also mentioned that she began to fear the war and felt the need to 'go and figure this issue out.'
In a related development, Andriy Zadvorny has also announced his mobilization, highlighting a broader trend of young people actively participating in national defense during the ongoing conflict.
Elizaveta's service and financial self-sufficiency underscore the evolving role of youth in the country's defense, as they actively seek ways to sustain their efforts against external aggression. Decisions like hers demonstrate not only patriotism but also new formats of self-organization and volunteerism among the younger generation. Against the backdrop of a protracted war, the involvement of young people in military formations has become a crucial aspect of both national security and public consciousness.
