Anna Borysiuk on Her Sister in Russia: A Family Separated Since the War Began.
Anna Borysiuk's Emotional Struggle
According to TSN.ua: Anna Borysiuk, the younger daughter of renowned Ukrainian actress Olga Sumska, has spoken about the pain of being separated from her older sister, Antonina Paperna, who currently lives in Russia. The sisters have not seen each other in person since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, as Antonina had settled in the Russian Federation prior to the outbreak of hostilities. Their communication is now limited to video calls.
The Strain on Family Ties
Borysiuk expressed her feelings regarding the prolonged separation, stating:
“We haven't seen each other for a very long time – since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.” — Anna Borysiuk
She also voiced a hope for the future, adding:
“I hope that someday we will allow ourselves to believe in more – in a meeting, in shared moments, in the simple possibility of being together.” — Anna Borysiuk
Anna has two nephews, now aged 8 and 5, and maintaining their connection with their aunt Antonina is another crucial aspect of these strained family dynamics. This painful separation highlights the complex realities many Ukrainian families now face due to the war. The conflict has tragically divided countless families, forcing them to navigate relationships across a new and painful geopolitical divide.
This personal story reflects the profound emotional toll the war has taken on personal relationships and family bonds. For many Ukrainian families, members now find themselves on opposite sides of a border, a direct consequence of the ongoing conflict. In such circumstances, maintaining contact through digital means has become an essential, if insufficient, lifeline for preserving connections.
