20% Pension Bonus for Mountain Residents: Who Qualifies for the Additional Payment.
Extra Payments for Residents of Mountainous Areas
According to TSN.ua: Starting February 18, 2026, a new government resolution came into effect, granting certain Ukrainians—including pensioners and social benefit recipients—a 20% bonus on their pension payments if they live, work, or study in designated mountainous settlements. This policy, established by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 647, aims to support those facing higher living costs and limited resources in these regions.
To qualify for the supplement, individuals must have maintained residency status in a mountain settlement for at least six months. The bonus applies not only to pensions but also to several other state benefits.
Types of Social Payments Eligible for the Bonus
The 20% increase is extended to a range of social benefits, including:
- Pensions;
- State assistance for families with children;
- Social aid for individuals ineligible for a pension;
- Temporary support for children whose parents avoid child support payments;
- Social assistance for adults with disabilities since childhood;
- Support for orphans;
- State-funded scholarships.
The bonus will be discontinued if the recipient leaves the mountain settlement for more than six months or resides abroad for over 60 days without documented justification. These conditions ensure the benefit targets those who genuinely live in these challenging environments.
Introducing these extra payments for mountain residents marks a significant step toward social equity, helping offset the elevated expenses and limited opportunities faced by communities in high-altitude areas.
This measure is expected to improve financial stability for vulnerable groups in mountainous regions, which often grapple with economic hardships. Monitoring the resolution's implementation will be key to assessing its impact on affected Ukrainians.
