Two Georgian universities suspended the educational process in protest.
Universities in Georgia have ceased their activities in protest against the government's decision to freeze the country's accession to the European Union until 2028. The news was announced on the NGnewsgeorgia website.
The list of educational institutions where work has been suspended includes:
- University of Georgia
- Caucasus University
The University of Georgia issued a statement on its Facebook page, stating: 'In light of the situation in the country, we are suspending studies. We believe that today the main task of everyone is to return Georgia to the path of a European future'.
Caucasus University also informed its students about the temporary suspension of the educational process due to events in the country and promised to provide additional information regarding its resumption.
The administration of Ilia State University also expressed its protest against the refusal of the European perspective. 'We are concerned and condemn the refusal of Georgia's European perspective. We believe that the academic community's duty is to protect the country's European future,' stated the university's academic council.
Protest against the government's decision has also been expressed by athletes.
On November 28, citizens took to the streets of Tbilisi for a mass protest against the government's actions. Throughout the night, police attempted to disperse the protesters using water cannons.
Georgia is refusing to negotiate its accession to the EU until 2028. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated that the country wants to join the EU 'dignifiedly, with a healthy democratic system and a strong economy'. This statement has led to an increase in protests.

Today, the police have definitively cleared Rustaveli and pushed the protesters to the First Republic Square. The situation became very tense, and the police used physical force and detained protesters.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, 43 people were detained, including 32 police officers among the injured. The number of injured among the protesters remains unknown, but media reports indicate about 15 injured journalists.
