Ex-Mayor of Kherson on Captivity: I Feel Guilty Before Those Who Are Still in Captivity.
Statement of the Ex-Mayor of Kherson
According to inkorr.com: Former mayor of Kherson Volodymyr Mykolaienko expressed his guilt towards colleagues who are still in captivity. In an interview on the YouTube channel 'There Are Questions', he shared his feelings and expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions of detention in Russian captivity, noting that he felt defenseless and outside the law.
“I urge the authorities to negotiate with me regarding the exchange of captives, as this is an important process based on public principles.”
Exchange of Captives
Mykolaienko was abducted by Russian troops at the beginning of the conflict but refused to participate in the exchange for the benefit of another captive. He was released during the '146 for 146' action after a long unknown period regarding his fate. Volodymyr Mykolaienko took on the mission to help free other prisoners and participate in the exchange process of prisoners of war.
Mykolaienko's words underscore the importance of exchanging captives in wartime conditions, as behind each case stand lives of people and their families. His willingness to help other prisoners and call for dialogue with the authorities may become important steps in the process of bringing home those who still remain in captivity.
