EU imposes sanctions on 41 vessels of the Russian shadow fleet: what is now prohibited.
According to ТСН: The European Union has announced sanctions against another 41 vessels belonging to the so-called 'shadow fleet' of Russia.
According to the official statement from the EU Council, this step aims to limit the activities of Russian 'shadow fleet' tankers that ignore the price cap on oil or support Russia's energy sector. The restrictions also apply to vessels engaged in the transportation of military equipment for Russia or involved in the transportation of stolen Ukrainian grain and cultural valuables.
Vessels included in the new sanctions package are prohibited from entering EU ports. They can also no longer receive a wide range of maritime transport services, as reported by the EU Council.
The total number of Russian vessels subjected to sanctions from this bloc is already approaching 600.
“The EU remains ready to intensify pressure on Russia and its shadow fleet value chain. In particular, by imposing further sanctions”
It is worth noting that the measures of Western sanctions aimed at reducing Russia's oil revenues have contributed to the growth of the shadow fleet. These tankers help Moscow maintain crude oil exports. Many of them operate in the Baltic Sea and transport oil through the Gulf of Finland, which is a critical route for the export of energy resources from Russia.
It was also reported that the Federal Fiscal Court of Germany refused to grant permission for the confiscation of the emergency oil tanker Eventin, which is on the list of vessels in the Russian 'shadow fleet'. The court expressed “reasonable doubts about the legality of the confiscation measures” and stated that a final decision has not yet been made.
Recall that recently, in the Black Sea near the Turkish coast, two tankers 'Kairos' and 'Virat' simultaneously exploded and caught fire, which fell under international sanctions for transporting Russian oil.
These sanctions are another step by the EU in the fight against Russian aggression and Moscow's attempts to circumvent international restrictions. It is expected that the new measures will further complicate the activities of the 'shadow fleet' and reduce Russia's oil export revenues, which has long-term implications for its economy.
