Farmer lost 150 tons of potatoes due to a fake post online: what happened.
According to inkorr.com: In the Polish village of Dąbrowica, farmer Piotr suffered significant losses, losing about 150 tons of potatoes due to a fake post on social media about free harvest. People massively arrived at his field with bags and trailers, believing they could take the potatoes for free.
The shocked farmer noted that his potato harvest disappeared literally overnight after the spread of false information that he 'was giving away potatoes for free because he couldn't sell them.'
Farmer's losses and his hopes
«I was shocked. I am 68 years old, and I have never experienced anything like this. It's like a scene from a Bareja film. I hope those who were in the field will contact me and we will resolve this peacefully. Otherwise, I will turn to the prosecutor's office. They just stole my potatoes!», - the farmer reported.
Piotr explained that he couldn't prevent the theft as he was at a family celebration and didn't know what was happening in the field. He has been an agrarian for 25 years. So far, he hasn't contacted the police, hoping that people, upon learning of the deception, will return his stolen harvest.
Potato prices in Ukraine
Analyst of the Ukrainian Club of Agribusiness Maksym Hopka warns of a possible sharp rise in potato prices in Ukraine this winter. Prices in supermarkets may reach 55 hryvnias per kilogram.
At the beginning of autumn 2025, potatoes in Ukraine began to decrease in price due to increased supply. Producers were forced to reduce prices by an average of 10%. Among buyers, it became popular to purchase larger potato varieties.
This situation with the Polish farmer highlights the importance of fact-checking information before making decisions to avoid repeating similar cases in the future. In particular, it reminds us of the consequences of misinformation, which can cause serious harm not only to individuals but also to entire communities.
