Fico Premier Reveals Details of Conversation with Putin.
The President of Slovakia Fico Discusses Gas Transit with Putin
On December 22, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, arrived in Moscow to meet with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
The meeting took place in the Kremlin in a personal communication format. It was scheduled a few days earlier.
After the negotiations, Fico reported that he had preliminarily informed the leadership of the European Union about his trip to Moscow. He also stated that this meeting was a response to the refusal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to transport gas to Slovakia through the territory of Ukraine.
'The Ukrainian president also supports sanctions against the Russian nuclear program. Such an attitude damages Slovakia and threatens the production of electricity at nuclear power plants, which is unacceptable,' said the Prime Minister of Slovakia.
According to him, Putin confirmed Russia's readiness to continue supplying gas to Slovakia and Western countries, but due to Ukraine's position, this may become almost impossible after January 1, 2025.
During a lengthy conversation, Fico and Putin also discussed the situation regarding the military conflict in Ukraine and possibilities for a peaceful resolution, as well as issues of bilateral relations between Slovakia and Russia. The President of Slovakia expressed his intention to normalize these relations.
'This will also be assisted by events related to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory over fascism, where Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, and other peoples of the former USSR played a decisive role,' Fico noted.
