The photo of Ukrainian internally displaced persons made it to National Geographic's best shots of 2025.
According to ТСН: A photograph of a displaced family from Donetsk, now living in Poltava, has made it to the list of the best photographs of 2025 according to National Geographic.
The photo titled 'In the Embrace of Family' was created by English-Swedish photographer Anastasia Taylor-Lind.
In the image, little Tymofiy Tsveitkov is seen with his aunt Olga Hrinik, who currently reside in Poltava. As noted, Tymofiy's father is fighting in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and their hometown Avdiivka is under Russian occupation. Therefore, the family was forced to evacuate to central Ukraine.
'The woman holds her little nephew's hand, seemingly to soothe or protect him from the horrific events happening beyond their yard. But off-camera, the atmosphere was quite ordinary and sometimes even joyful. Family members sat at a shared table outdoors on a warm day, passing plates of food to one another.'
This photograph highlights the strength of family bonds even in the most difficult times. It not only reflects the personal story of Tymofiy and his aunt but also symbolizes the resilience of Ukrainian displaced persons who are creating a new home despite the challenges of war. The significance of such creative works lies in their ability to evoke emotions and prompt reflections on humanity in hard times.
