Zelensky revealed details of security guarantees from the USA: what the document entails.
According to ТСН: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reported on active negotiations with the USA regarding the provision of security guarantees. Kyiv has received a draft document and plans to soon submit its proposals regarding its content to Washington.
Details of security guarantees
"The guarantees should include a provision similar to Article Five of NATO, as well as a clear understanding of how partners will respond in the event of renewed aggression from Russia. The details regarding the armament have been agreed not to be disclosed publicly until the finalization of the respective document," he noted.
Peace plan and coalition of willing
Commenting on the so-called "latest version of the Russian peace plan," the president emphasized that an agreed version does not currently exist. According to him, the USA is discussing certain proposals with both Ukraine and Russia, but there is no final agreed document.
"The coalition of willing" has developed security guarantees that are to be provided to Ukraine after the end of the war. In particular, Europe and the USA commit to support the Ukrainian army, which in peacetime should remain at a level of up to 800,000 soldiers, in order to be able to defend Ukraine's territory.
Furthermore, within the framework of the "coalition of the resolute," Europe, with the support of the USA, plans to create "Multinational Forces of Ukraine" for the restoration of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, protecting the skies and security at sea, including possible actions on Ukrainian territory. The security guarantees plan also includes creating a mechanism for monitoring the ceasefire, headed by the USA. It involves preventing attacks, recording violations, and responding to them.
Response from the American leader
Donald Trump stated at a White House briefing that the United States is ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine as this is a key factor for the successful implementation of a peace agreement.
At the same time, the American leader expressed the opinion that the current proposal for an agreement does not find full support from Volodymyr Zelensky.
The future of the war
In response, Zelensky did not rule out that the war could end next year. However, he emphasized that the state needs to have significant reserves of armaments in warehouses as a guarantee of safety for the future.
REFERENCE: Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is a key principle of NATO's collective defense: armed attack against one member of the Alliance is seen as an attack against all. This obliges each member country to provide assistance, including the use of armed force, if deemed necessary to restore security, although specific actions are defined by each state.
The issue of ensuring Ukraine's security remains on the agenda of international negotiations. The importance of effective guarantees highlights the need for Ukraine's support from partners, especially in the context of escalating military actions in the east of the country. It is clear that the positions of the states still require alignment, but the activity of both sides indicates a desire to find a solution that will support stability in the region.
