Preserving banking secrecy is a priority for the NBU
The head of the National Bank, Andriy Pyshny, emphasized that the protection of banking secrecy remains one of the most important tasks of the NBU. He noted that banking secrecy is a key element of social interaction and plays a role in maintaining trust in the financial system.
"Banking secrecy defines the banking sector as a separate layer in social interaction and as one of the subjects of democracy protection. Without banking secrecy, it is impossible to imagine either effective banking activities or public trust in the legitimate financial system," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine agency.
Recently, there has been an increased discussion regarding access to banking secrecy in the context of combating tax evasion and financial misconduct.
"Our position is that this access should be clearly regulated, controlled, justified, and not unlimited in any case," Pyshny noted.
