Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Accuses Russian Army of Killing 90-Year-Old Kyiv Resident.
A Tragedy in Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: The body of 90-year-old Yevheniia Mykhailivna Bezfamilna was discovered in her apartment in the Podil district of Kyiv. Her death occurred amid severe heating problems caused by Russian missile strikes on the city's infrastructure. While the official cause of death has been listed as heart failure, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman has expressed outrage, directly blaming the Russian army for her demise. He stated that the horrific living conditions she endured
"simply 'finished off' this heroic grandmother, who held on until the very end"— Moshe Reuven Asman.
Discussing the Consequences
A funeral for Yevheniia Bezfamilna will be held on February 1 at the Jewish cemetery in Barakhty. Kyiv police have confirmed she died from illness, not hypothermia. Nevertheless, public discussion continues to focus on the consequences of Russian attacks, which are severely degrading living conditions, especially for the elderly. This conflict has devastated civilian infrastructure, leaving vulnerable populations exposed to the elements.
- In a similar case, 84-year-old doctor Oleksandr Bonder died from wounds sustained in a Russian artillery strike.
- These incidents highlight the tragic, direct impact of military actions on innocent civilians.
Chief Rabbi Asman emphasized that the Russian army is responsible for the death of Yevheniia Bezfamilna, stressing the importance of acknowledging this reality. This tragedy underscores the war's devastating effect on Ukraine's civilian population, particularly its most vulnerable members. The deaths of Bezfamilna and Bonder reflect a dire humanitarian situation, worsened by warfare and critical shortages of resources like heating. It is vital for society to recognize these consequences and demand accountability for the actions leading to such losses.
