Power Outage Schedules in Ukraine: How Queues Work and How Long They Last.
According to ТСН: Not all Ukrainians fully understand what power outage queues are, how they are formed, and how long they last.
When the energy system does not have enough electricity, Ukraine introduces power outage schedules. All consumers are divided into six queues, each of which has two sub-queues. When there is a need to reduce the load, a certain number of queues are turned off depending on the available electricity at that moment.
Critical infrastructure such as hospitals, water supply companies, transport, etc. is not included in the disconnection queues. It consumes about 25% of the total electricity. The other 75% of consumption consists of other consumers who are subject to outages. This 75% is divided into six equal parts, each accounting for 12.5% of the total consumption. Each of these parts is called a queue.
How long does one queue last
The duration of one outage is up to four hours per day.
Two queues: approximately 8 hours of outages per day.
Three queues: approximately 12 hours of outages per day.
Four queues: over 12 hours of outages per day.
Five and six queues: simultaneous disconnection of all queues leads to emergency outages when standard schedules do not apply. Within one building, there may be different queues if they are connected to different lines.
You can find out your queue on the website or in the chatbot of the regional energy supplier. Power outage schedules are published by DTEK. The timing and duration of outages may be updated depending on the situation in the system.
It should be noted that as a result of another nighttime attack by Russia on Ukraine, energy facilities have been damaged, raising questions about the future stability of electricity supply. Currently, in some regions, there is a surplus of electricity generation, which means there is no need to introduce power outage schedules.
The situation with electricity supply in Ukraine remains dynamic. Authorities continue to monitor the energy system to ensure stability and uninterrupted electricity supply for all consumers. Consumers are advised to follow updates on official resources to stay informed about changes in outage schedules.
