Threat from the Kremlin
A senior Kremlin official warned Donald Trump about the likelihood that the residents of Greenland could vote to join Russia. Dmitry Medvedev stated that Trump 'needs to hurry' and take control of the Arctic island through military operation before Moscow attempts to assert its claims to it.“Referendums may be held there,” Medvedev said.Washington is actively working on its interests in the region, trying to strengthen its position and maintain control over the strategic resources of the Arctic.Greenland remains a key territory not only for global rivalries but also for Russia's ambitions in the Arctic. Prolonged attempts to increase the presence of other states in this region indicate the growing importance of the Arctic for global politics and economics.
