Suspects in the explosion of the Crimean Bridge

Russia has announced a search for Georgian citizen Alexander Inasaridze and Ukrainian citizen Sergey Andriyenko. They are accused of involvement in the explosion on the Crimean bridge in October 2022. This is reported by Russian media.

In particular, Russian law enforcement officials have initiated a criminal case against the suspects for 'a terrorist act that caused a person's death,' 'illegal acquisition of explosives,' and 'smuggling of explosives by an organized group.' Media reports indicate that in March 2024, a Moscow court sentenced Inasaridze in absentia to a prison term. The truck that exploded on the Crimean bridge allegedly belongs to his mother.

The explosion on the Crimean bridge occurred seven months after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On October 8, 2022, a truck exploded on the bridge.

Four days after the explosion, the Russian Federal Security Service stated that as part of the investigation into 'a terrorist attack organized by Ukrainian military intelligence,' it had arrested five Russian citizens and three citizens of Ukraine and Armenia, as well as identified accomplices, two of whom are Georgian citizens. In the official statement of the Russian Security Service at that Time, Alexander Inasaridze was referred to as Sandro Inasaridze, and another person as a broker named Levan.

SBU attacked the Crimean bridge

As is known, more than a year ago, on July 17, the Security Service of Ukraine attacked the Russian-built Crimean bridge using sea drones of their own design, Sea Baby.

At that time, SBU drones moved in two groups towards the target for more than 20 hours. They managed to pass unnoticed by the Russians and destroy one section of the bridge and significantly damage another. This special operation severed the logistical artery that supplied Russian troops in southern Ukraine.

Notably, this was the second successful attack by the SBU on the Crimean bridge. The first took place in October 2022. The Security Service hit the bridge using a truck loaded with explosives.

It should be noted that the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that preparation for the destruction of the Crimean bridge is ongoing. Ukrainian defenders might destroy it this year.

Previously, Russians blocked the Kerch bridge because they fear a repeat situation where one of the trucks mysteriously exploded on the bridge, thus doing everything possible to ensure maximum security at this facility.

As reported, the Ukrainian Defense Forces developed a plan to return Crimea under Ukrainian control and destroy the Crimean bridge.

By the way, Russian law enforcement accuses the head of the Ukrainian Security Service, Vasyl Malyuk, of attacking the Crimean bridge in 2023.
