Citrus Fruits and Berries Reduce the Risk of Kidney Stones: New Research Findings.
Citrus Fruits and Berries Reduce the Risk of Urolithiasis
According to ТСН: Researchers found that consuming citrus fruits and berries may help reduce the likelihood of developing kidney stones.
Data analysis showed that people who regularly consumed citrus fruits, melons, berries, and tomatoes had a lower risk of stone formation. In contrast, increased consumption of added sugars was associated with a higher likelihood of disease.
Researchers emphasized that the relationship between diet and the risk of stone formation is often nonlinear. For some foods, there is an optimal level of consumption: moderate amounts are associated with a reduced risk, while too low or too high consumption may lead to the opposite effect.
Fruits and vegetables that are rich in potassium and organic acids can reduce the crystallization of salts in urine. Dairy products provide calcium, which decreases the absorption of oxalates in the intestines. At the same time, adding sugar may disrupt metabolism and increase calcium excretion in urine.
It should be noted that during the research, experts found that sweets are not only associated with weight gain and diabetes, but are also considered a serious threat to kidney health.
Thus, regular consumption of citrus fruits and berries can be an important step in the prevention of urolithiasis. Considering the peculiarities of nutrition, particularly the optimal level of consumption of certain foods, can significantly improve health. These results highlight the importance of a balanced diet for maintaining the functions of our body.
