Kyiv on Alert for Roof Snow and Ice Hazards

According to TSN.ua: Authorities in Kyiv have warned of an increased risk of snow and ice falling from building roofs due to shifting weather conditions. Residents are urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines. Rescue services specifically advise maintaining a distance of 3 to 4 meters from building walls to avoid danger.

Weather Forecast for Ukraine

According to meteorologists, rain and wet snow are expected on February 12 in western and northern regions of Ukraine. Nighttime air temperatures will range from +2 to -3 degrees Celsius, with possible frosts down to -12 in eastern areas. Daytime temperatures across the country are forecast between +1 and +4 degrees, reaching up to +8 in the west and south.

Capital residents are called upon to be especially vigilant.

"If you hear suspicious noise from above, do not stop or look up. Quickly press yourself against a wall," emphasized the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
Additionally, the Kyiv City State Administration recommends that parents remind children of the dangers of playing near building overhangs during thaws and to adhere to safety rules.

Key safety rules include:

  • Avoiding close proximity to building facades;
  • Walking on sidewalks at a distance of 3-4 meters from walls;
  • Not leaving children unsupervised during walks;
  • Drivers are advised against parking vehicles directly next to buildings.

In connection with the changing weather, Kyiv's inhabitants must remain particularly attentive and follow official instructions. Timely safety measures can prevent injuries and accidents. This seasonal hazard is common in regions with freeze-thaw cycles, where snow accumulation can become unstable. Adhering to these recommendations can significantly reduce the risk of injury from falling snow and ice, especially when temperatures fluctuate around the freezing point.
