Kyrylo Budanov Outlines Four Pillars for a Just Peace as Ukraine's War Enters Fifth Year.
The State of Ukraine at the Start of the War's Fifth Year
According to Novyny.live: In comments provided to journalist Halyna Ostapovets on February 23, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, detailed the national outlook as the full-scale war enters its fifth year. He noted that the conflict has profoundly altered many lives.
“Many people have been born during this war and have lived through it for 12 years, and now the 13th is underway. War always changes everyone,” Budanov stated.
Essential Conditions for Achieving Peace
The Head of the President's Office emphasized that achieving a just peace for Ukraine requires focusing on four key areas. He also announced an upcoming prisoner exchange with Russia, which could mark a significant step in peace negotiations.
“This is merely a pause and a signal for other authoritarian regimes,” Budanov added, highlighting the process's importance in the broader context of international politics.
Budanov's statement was made on the eve of the war's grim anniversary, underscoring the urgency of discussing a peaceful settlement and national recovery. The ongoing Russian war against Ukraine remains the nation's most critical challenge, with thoughts of the future dominating Ukrainian society. This conflict represents the largest ground war in Europe since World War II, with global implications for security and international law.
Kyrylo Budanov's comments stress the critical need for a peaceful resolution to ensure stability for Ukraine and the wider region. While the prisoner exchange may send a positive signal to the international community about a willingness for dialogue, tangible progress will demand concerted efforts from both sides. Amid a protracted armed conflict, the issues of peace and reconstruction remain paramount for Ukrainian society and its international partners.
