Chinese Migration to Siberia: Why the Kremlin is Losing Control Over the Region.
According to inkorr.com: A new phenomenon is forming in Siberia – Chinese enclaves that could become a serious problem for the Kremlin. It is forecasted that by 2030, hundreds of thousands of Chinese migrants may settle in this region, as reported by 'Hlavkom', citing Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council.
Possibility of Visa-Free Travel
Since September 15, Russians have the opportunity to travel to China without visas, while Moscow, in turn, is preparing similar measures for Chinese citizens. This is seen as part of a 'quiet expansion,' Kovalenko noted.
According to him, this is a new opportunity for China to develop 'creeping' migration to Siberia and the Far East, where Chinese enclaves are starting to form, attracting business from Beijing. Loggers and other local residents are gradually yielding to the new migrants.
Demographic Changes
Kovalenko emphasizes that by 2030, the number of Chinese migrants in Siberia could significantly increase. The demographic crisis in Russia does not allow filling the population vacuum with people from its own territories, and this place will gradually be occupied by representatives of other nations.
According to the expert's estimate, the Kremlin is not developing the region but, on the contrary, is ceding it for settlement by foreigners. This could become a strategic failure for Russia, as Siberia and the Far East are important territories that Moscow is currently losing.
The formation of Chinese enclaves in Siberia could pose serious problems for the Russian government. With the expansion of the visa-free regime between the Russian Federation and China by 2030, a significant number of Chinese migrants may appear in the region, threatening the demographic and political stability of these areas. Experts are concerned that these processes could lead to a loss of control by Russia over important parts of Siberia and the Far East.
