Kyiv Mayor Sees Optimistic Outlook for Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant Revival.
Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant Restoration
According to Novyny.live: During a press conference on March 26, Vitali Klitschko stated that the prospects for restoring the Darnytsia thermal power plant—currently under private ownership—are optimistic. He emphasized that this effort is critical for maintaining energy stability in the region. The plant was sold two decades ago, and its revival will now proceed with state support.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed there are no plans to nationalize the facility, signaling a commitment to preserving private ownership while attracting investment for modernization. Klitschko noted that the restoration will require millions of euros, adding,
“the outlook for recovery is positive.”This suggests that both state backing and private capital could be mobilized, marking a significant step toward upgrading Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. For context, the Darnytsia plant has been offline for years, and its return could ease pressure on Kyiv’s power grid.
Why Restoration Matters
Bringing the Darnytsia thermal power plant back online could be a key factor in strengthening Kyiv’s energy independence and improving public utility services. Amid global energy challenges, combining private investment with government cooperation may help modernize energy facilities and boost their efficiency. This approach also reflects a broader trend in Ukraine of protecting private property rights, which could encourage further investment in the energy sector.
