Russia Threatens NATO with War: Is Putin Really Prepared for a New Front?.
According to ТСН: Russia openly threatens NATO countries with war. Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov stated that NATO's combined forces, in his opinion, are preparing to confront Russia, and in 2024 Russia will "impose its war on the opponent."
Not long ago, Putin claimed he had no intention of starting a war with Europe. However, in his recent speech, he referred to European politicians as "pigs" who are trying to destroy Russia along with the Biden administration. According to Putin, their plans have allegedly failed.
Furthermore, the Kremlin leader dismissed claims by European politicians about a possible Russian attack on Europe, calling it "nonsense." He accused them of "spreading hysteria" and fear, noting that Russia sought partnership relations after the collapse of the USSR, but the West decided to expand NATO.
Russia's Military Potential
Military expert Igor Romanenko suggests analyzing the threats to understand the capabilities of the parties in a military conflict.
Resource Potential: Russia's Defense Industry Against Sanctions
Romanenko emphasizes that Russia has been able to increase its defense industry due to the war with Ukraine. However, sanctions negatively affect the RF economy, and since the beginning of the year, negative trends have been observed in the Russian defense industry. The expert believes that if the war in Ukraine continues at the same pace, by mid-2026, the Russian economy may reach a critical level.
He also stresses that to wage war against NATO, Russia must stop combat actions in Ukraine, as Putin will not be able to fight on two fronts simultaneously.
Limited Goals: The Baltics and the Suwalki Corridor
Romanenko believes that if Russia decides to go to war with NATO, its goals may be limited—mainly in the Baltics or near the Suwalki Corridor. However, for a large war, Russia currently lacks sufficient resources and will not be able to act simultaneously in Ukraine and the Baltics.
The expert reminds that Putin can end the war in Ukraine to start new military actions, but he lacks both human and financial resources.
Belousov's Statements: Another Bluff and Pressure on Europe
Romanenko believes that Belousov's and Putin's statements are an attempt to pressure European states. According to him, such statements are intended to intimidate. Putin understands that Europe does not seek war, and data from surveys confirm this.
Russia's Main Advantage: Experience in Conducting Modern Warfare
According to the expert, despite the fact that the total military potential of Europe is less than that of Russia, Russia has an advantage in the experience of conducting modern warfare gained in Ukraine. Romanenko notes that although Russia planned active actions, it will likely lack resources for large-scale operations.
Lessons from Provocations and What Europe Should Prepare For
Romanenko emphasizes the importance of preparing European countries for a potential military conflict. Russian provocations using drones demonstrate Europe's insufficient readiness for active actions. The expert believes that if Russia decides to start a large-scale war, European countries must be prepared for it.
In light of recent statements by Russian leaders, the situation in Europe remains tense. It is important to pay attention to changes in international relations and the actions of NATO and the EU, as all of this can directly affect peace and stability in the region. European states must continue to strengthen their defense capabilities to face new challenges that Russia may create.
