Ilya Remeslo Hospitalized

According to TSN.ua: On March 19, Ilya Remeslo—a blogger who once promoted Kremlin narratives—was admitted to a psychiatric facility in Saint Petersburg. This followed a series of Telegram posts he made on March 17–18, where he voiced fierce criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Remeslo described the war in Ukraine as 'completely hopeless' and labeled Putin an illegitimate leader.

Remeslo's Statements

In those posts, Remeslo called for Putin's resignation and demanded he be prosecuted as a war criminal and thief. He stated:

'Vladimir Putin is not a legitimate president. Vladimir Putin must resign and be held accountable in a trial as a war criminal and thief.' Ilya Remeslo

Remeslo is currently in Ward 16 of the hospital, a unit specializing in treating men with psychotic disorders. His writings reflect deep dissatisfaction with the country's direction, touching on topics such as:

  • the war in Ukraine
  • internet and media censorship
  • Putin's unlimited term in power
  • disrespect toward citizens
  • 'an insane lust for luxury'

Journalist Alexander Plyushchev recorded an interview with Remeslo on March 18, during which Remeslo shared his thoughts and anxieties about the country's situation and government policies. Remeslo's hospitalization has sparked public interest and debate, particularly among activists and those opposing the current regime.

Remeslo's case may signal growing discontent within Russian society over the political climate, especially among former supporters of the government. It also highlights the risks faced by regime critics, whose opinions can lead to severe consequences. In an environment of ongoing censorship and repression, incidents like Remeslo's serve as a warning to anyone attempting to voice opposition to those in power.
