Detention of Volodymyr Balukh
According to TSN.ua: Volodymyr Balukh, a former political prisoner of the Kremlin, has reported being illegally detained and physically assaulted on March 27 inside a temporary investigative commission (TCC) office in Kyiv. According to Balukh, he was held at the facility for approximately 21 hours. The incident, he says, stemmed from an alleged violation of military registration rules, which served as the pretext for his detention.
The beating took place at 9:00 PM, with prosecutor Artem Novov present during the incident. Balukh, who holds a Group II disability status, stated that his detention was directly linked to his activism.
“This happened at the TCC office on Salyutna Street because of my activities,”he said. After the detention, his handcuffs were removed, and he was able to speak with someone present at the scene.
Reaction to the Incident
Commenting on the situation, Artem Novov remarked:
“We learned about this information from the media.”The response from lawyers and the prosecutor's office regarding this incident remains unclear at this time. Volodymyr Balukh, widely recognized for his human rights advocacy, has once again drawn public attention following the events at the TCC.
The incident involving Volodymyr Balukh has sparked public outcry, as he is considered a symbol of human rights defense in Ukraine. Known for his resilience during captivity in Russia, Balukh continues to highlight human rights violations. The reaction of state authorities to his claims and any potential legal consequences from his detention could influence the broader situation in Ukraine, particularly concerning the legal protection of people with disabilities and activists.
