Antytila's Concert Nearly Canceled After Equipment Burns Out 90 Minutes Before Show.
Major Technical Failure at Antytila Concert
According to TSN.ua: During their 'Vdoma' (At Home) tour, the band Antytila faced a severe technical crisis when nearly all their performance equipment was destroyed by a power surge just an hour and a half before they were scheduled to take the stage. The incident, which occurred due to a voltage spike, knocked out most of the concert gear. Specifically, 12 out of 14 professional dB Technologies VIO acoustic systems were burned out, electrical fuses were destroyed, and circuitry was partially scorched.
The digital equipment used to synchronize lighting and sound was also damaged. Consequently, the concert began without a proper soundcheck, forcing the band to rely on the natural acoustics of the stage. It's worth noting that stand-up comic Slava Bu has been opening the evening's events in every city on this tour, providing a unique blend of comedy and music for Ukrainian audiences.
Performance Challenges During a Key Song
The situation worsened during the performance of the song 'Fortetsia Bakhmut' (Bakhmut Fortress), when a second power surge hit. Despite these compounded difficulties, the band and crew persevered. The show continued in an acoustic format, illuminated by the lights of audience members' mobile phones. Bandleader Taras Topola reflected on the experience:
This was one of those concerts you remember forever. — Taras Topola
This event underscores the critical importance of technical preparedness for live performances, especially for bands touring under challenging conditions. While technical failures can significantly impact show quality, the ability of artists to adapt and continue performing in a crisis demonstrates their professionalism and dedication to their fans.
Such incidents also serve as a stark reminder of the necessity for regular equipment maintenance and having robust contingency plans for unforeseen circumstances during major events.
