Latvia Launches New Fundraiser to Provide Generators for Ukraine by February 25.
Latvia's Support Campaign for Ukraine
According to UATV: Latvia's public media company (LSM) and the charity Ziedot.lv have launched a new fundraising initiative for Ukraine, which will run from February 9, 2026, until February 25, 2026. The campaign aims to raise money to supply generators to civilians affected by Russian attacks, offering Latvians a chance to provide crucial support during the harsh winter months. This effort highlights the ongoing solidarity from Baltic nations as Ukraine continues to face infrastructure challenges.
The collected funds will be used to purchase generators, a critical need due to the energy crisis caused by the ongoing conflict. Latvia is urging all concerned citizens to participate, as every contribution can provide a lifeline for those in desperate need:
- Donations can be made via phone call to 90204113, with each call costing 5 euros.
- Online donations are also available for convenience at the website ziedot.lv/Ukrainai.
As a symbolic gesture of unity, the Ukrainian national anthem will be broadcast across Latvian media outlets at 12:00 on February 24. The funds raised could purchase advanced robotic systems, with the cost of one complete unit reaching up to 250,000 euros.
“Ukraine is freezing this winter. It's not just soldiers in the trenches who need warmth, but families and children across the country. That is why Latvia must stand with Ukraine in both thought and action. Every donation means security and survival for Ukrainians. Let's help Ukraine,” stated Ruta Dimanta.
Monika Garbačauskaitė-Budrienė also emphasized the broad public awareness of the campaign: “We have seen numerous instances where both children and the elderly have made donations.” This initiative represents a significant step in providing tangible aid to Ukraine amidst the current crisis.
Latvia's Solidarity with Ukraine
The campaign being held in Latvia is a testament to the solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people during the prolonged war and energy crisis. Fundraising for generators underscores the importance of meeting the basic needs of the civilian population suffering from the consequences of hostilities. Furthermore, the campaign and the symbolic performance of the Ukrainian anthem on February 24 also demonstrate support for Ukrainian culture and history in Latvia, which can strengthen the bonds between the two nations during this difficult time.
