Lavrov named the conditions for Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov gave an interview to American journalist Tucker Carlson, in which he made several statements regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
Lavrov stated that to achieve peace in Ukraine, NATO must be excluded, the presence of foreign troops must be banned, and military training involving other countries must be stopped. He emphasized the need for compromise with Russia and noted that many Russians want the lifting of sanctions as a condition for an agreement regarding Ukraine.
'Many in Russia would like the lifting of sanctions to be a condition for an agreement regarding Ukraine, but the country has endured them and has become stronger,' Lavrov said.
The minister also spoke about Russia's relations with the United States and stated that the testing of the 'Oreshnik' system was a signal from Russia after the U.S. allowed an attack on its territory. He hopes that America will take their signal seriously and warned that Russia may send additional 'messages' to the West if necessary conclusions are not made. The minister noted that Russia will use any means to prevent its 'strategic defeat' by the West.
Lavrov also expressed hope for the normalization of relations with the U.S. and emphasized that Russia does not desire war with them, as it could have a nuclear character. He called for cooperation between Russia and the U.S. in the interest of global security. He also stated that the issue of the U.S.'s role in foreign policy is a question for Washington.
