Lavrov issues statement on European diplomat visits and U.S. agreements.
Sergei Lavrov’s remarks on the conflict in Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has weighed in on Europe’s stance regarding the war in Ukraine, as well as recent diplomatic visits and understandings with the United States. He confirmed that ambassadors from Britain, France, and Germany had come to the Russian ministry, but according to him,
“they brought nothing new.”
Lavrov also expressed hope that Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner—who are planning a trip to Russia—will clarify how Washington intends to uphold the commitments made during the summit in Alaska on August 15 last year. He stressed that Moscow
“remains committed to the agreements reached on August 15 last year in Alaska.”
A new condition for peace talks
Additionally, Lavrov laid out a fresh prerequisite for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine: the “restoration of rights” for ethnic Russians and Russian-speaking people in Ukraine. These comments come at a time of growing international tensions and ongoing discussions about the region’s future trajectory.
Lavrov’s statements underscore the persistent friction between Russia and Western nations, particularly regarding the situation in Ukraine. The demand to restore rights for Russians and Russian-speakers in Ukraine may signal Moscow’s intent to keep pressure on Kyiv and the global community. The anticipated visit of U.S. diplomats could also serve as a key moment for understanding Washington’s next moves in addressing the conflict and supporting Ukraine amid rising threats. This could shape future developments in the region and diplomatic relations among the major players.
