Le Monde revealed secret negotiations regarding a European military mission in Ukraine.
According to a report by the French publication Le Monde, the possibility of sending a military contingent to Ukraine is being considered. The return to this discussion is linked to the assumption of the presidency by Donald Trump in January 2025 and the likely cessation of American aid to Kyiv.
According to the publication, the United Kingdom and France are actively conducting negotiations to create a joint strike force in Europe. A British military source noted that this initiative is aimed at supporting Ukraine and strengthening European security.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized in his interview with BBC News that there are no 'red lines' when it comes to supporting Ukraine. He stressed that France will support Ukraine as intensively and as long as necessary to ensure its security.
“We will support Ukraine as intensively and for as long as necessary, as our security depends on it,” Barrot emphasized.
These discussions had already arisen in February when French President Emmanuel Macron openly discussed the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine. This sparked controversy with some European countries, particularly Germany.
The spokesperson for the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, commented on this publication, claiming that the Kremlin cannot confirm its accuracy, but acknowledged the existence of differing positions among European countries on this issue.
Earlier, information emerged that the issue of military support for Ukraine was discussed during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to France.
