Statement by EU leaders on peace in Ukraine
Leaders of the European Union expressed their support for President Trump's efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine. They believe it is important to combine diplomacy, support for Ukraine, and pressure on Russia to end the conflict.
This is stated in a ahead of the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
The statement was signed by French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
'We welcome President Trump's efforts to end the killings in Ukraine, to conclude the aggressive war of the Russian Federation, and to achieve a just and lasting peace and security for Ukraine.', the statement said.
Leaders stated they are ready to support this work both diplomatically and through maintaining military and financial assistance to Ukraine, including sanctions against Russia.
'We agree that Ukraine has the right to choose its own destiny. For peace, it is crucial to have a ceasefire and to reduce hostilities,' they added.
EU leaders call for united efforts to ensure peace and security in Ukraine through diplomacy and support for the country amid conflict.
