Local ceasefire near Zaporizhzhia NPP for electricity supply repair
Today, November 7, a local ceasefire began near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) to initiate repair works necessary to improve the station's connection to the power grid and prevent a nuclear accident. This was reported by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, as reported by 'Glavkom'.After the restoration of external electricity supply to ZNPP, preparatory works started in the area of the broken power line 'Ferosplavna-1' with a voltage of 330 kilovolts two weeks later. The aim of these measures is to restore connection with the power plant after a six-month break. Technical specialists plan to start repairs soon to ensure access to the power grid. The IAEA team will also monitor the repair process, as they did last month.ZNPP has not produced electricity for three years due to reactor shutdowns; however, power supply for cooling the active zone and other essential systems is provided by diesel generators in case of loss of external electricity supply. The agency continues to monitor operations at the plant to prevent accidents and radiological threats. The restoration of electricity supply is critically important for the safety of ZNPP, as it ensures the functioning of cooling systems and other key mechanisms. The local ceasefire creates all conditions for essential repairs, which may reduce risks related to nuclear safety in the region. IAEA's observations confirm the importance of international oversight of the situation.Read also
