Sandu's Warnings on Russian Threats

According to Novyny.live: Moldovan President Maia Sandu has outlined how Russia attempted to destabilize her country through cyberattacks, political corruption, and energy leverage. Speaking at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Sandu stated that these actions aimed to install a loyal government in Chisinau, posing a severe threat to Moldova's democracy. Moldova, a small nation situated between Ukraine and Romania, has been navigating complex geopolitical pressures since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The President revealed that social media interactions linked to destabilization campaigns reached approximately 1.5 million. Around 100 fake TikTok accounts were used to discredit the country's elections. According to Sandu, these efforts were designed to seize parliament, install a Kremlin-controlled government, and destroy democracy. She further noted that Russia's goal was to pull the Republic of Moldova into its sphere of influence to use it against both Ukraine and Europe.

Moldova's Resilience and the Need for International Support

Maia Sandu emphasized that Moldova has maintained resilience thanks to the efforts of its entire society. She stressed that regional security currently depends on the resistance of the Ukrainian people, highlighting the critical importance of international support in countering external threats. The resolution of the Transnistria conflict was also noted as a priority for the Republic of Moldova, a key issue for regional stability.

Sandu's statements, made amid heightened tensions between Moldova and Russia, underscore not only the internal challenges the country faces but also broader geopolitical trends in Eastern Europe. The destabilization campaigns conducted by Russia could have significant consequences for the security of neighboring states, particularly Ukraine, and for Moldova's long-term plans for European Union integration. In this context, international support and cooperation with European partners are critically important for strengthening Moldova's democratic institutions.
