McFaul: The Biggest Threat to Putin is Ukraine's Sovereignty

According to inkorr.com: Former U.S. ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, believes that the main threat to Vladimir Putin is Ukraine's sovereignty and its democratic development. According to him, this is what the Russian leader fears the most, rather than the defense of his borders. McFaul urges the West to support Ukraine on this issue, as this is what 'scares' Putin.

“This is what Putin fears the most. This poses the greatest threat to Putin,” McFaul emphasized.

In McFaul's opinion, Putin sees Ukrainians only as Russians with an accent. However, any steps towards establishing democracy in Ukraine could undermine his arguments about the necessity of dictatorial rule among Slavic peoples.

Putin's Invitation and the Alternative of European Politicians

Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow, considering it the optimal option. However, Zelensky rejected this proposal. Leaders of European countries suggested another option: if Putin wants to meet with Zelensky, let it take place in The Hague. Some politicians are even willing to meet with Putin there.

McFaul's remarks about Putin's fears regarding Ukrainian sovereignty and democracy underscore the importance of these issues for stability in the region. Zelensky's refusal to accept an invitation to Moscow illustrates the complex diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Russia, which require a careful approach to conflict resolution, taking into account the interests of both sides.
