The mayor of Yakutia declared a mourning period for Russian soldiers: residents' outrage.
According to inkorr.com: The mayor of Pokrovsk, Viktor Konstantinov, representing the 'New People' party, has declared a three-day mourning period for the Russian soldiers who died on October 7. This date coincides with the birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by 'Glavkom'.
During the period from October 7 to 9, all entertainment events have been canceled so that residents have the opportunity to 'focus on supporting the families of the deceased and honoring their memory'.
Outrage among local residents
The announcement of mourning has provoked negative reactions among local residents. Channels noted that this decision appears to be a 'harsh political act'. It is worth noting that the mayor did not cancel his inauguration, which took place on October 3. One of the Telegram channels raised the question:
“Why was a three-day mourning declared specifically on Putin's birthday, October 7, 2025? Is it a coincidence, the inexperience of the new mayor and his team, or a conscious political step by the 'New People' party that seeks to attract attention ahead of the Duma elections?”
According to media reports, the plane with the bodies of the deceased arrived in the republic the day before, but no exact information about the number of the dead has been provided.
“The Russian authorities recognize that the demobilization of participants in the war against Ukraine carries serious internal risks. According to the Kremlin's estimates, veterans may become catalysts for criminal and political destabilization that could undermine the system built around personal loyalty to Putin,”the report states.
After the mourning was declared, there was outrage among people who could not understand the reason for this step and began to suspect a political subtext. The lack of clarifications about the number of deceased only heightened public doubts.
This mourning, declared on such a symbolic day, has caused mixed emotions among the residents of Pokrovsk. People question the mayor's motives and the current political situation in the country. The topic of military casualties and the consequences of the war is still relevant, and the uncertainty surrounding the figures only adds fuel to the fire of general dissatisfaction.
