New Sanctions Against Russia
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated that the European Union must be ready to impose new sanctions against Russia if the situation does not improve. This information was reported by the FREEДОМ agency.
Hope for Peace
She also expressed hope that Russia's war against Ukraine will end soon. Metsola positively assessed the meeting of European leaders with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and White House Chief Donald Trump, which took place on August 18.
“We continue to hope for a resolution to end the war, but we must be realistic and prepare for new sanctions. The European Parliament is completely united in the belief that Ukraine's security is Europe's security,” said Metsola.
Recall that Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys called on the European Union to adopt a new, 19th package of sanctions against Russia to increase pressure on the aggressor state.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, and the international community is actively discussing ways to support Ukraine and pressure Russia. The introduction of new sanctions could be an important step in this context, as increasing pressure on Moscow may contribute to finding ways to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
