Ukrainian Defense Ministry Outlines Process for Military Personnel to Replace Combat Veteran IDs.
Eligibility for a New Combat Participant ID
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian military personnel can now apply for a replacement Combat Participant ID if their original document has been lost, stolen, or damaged. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that this replacement service has been available since January 23, 2023. Service members in need of a new ID must submit a formal request to their unit commander. This policy is part of ongoing efforts to support veterans and active-duty soldiers who have served in combat zones.
Procedure for ID Replacement
In cases where the ID is lost or stolen, service members must file a report and provide the following:
- A copy of the old ID (if available),
- The sheet of coupons from the original document,
- A copy of their passport,
- Two 3x4 cm photographs.
If the ID is damaged and unusable, the application must include:
- The damaged ID itself,
- The sheet of coupons,
- A copy of their passport,
- Two photographs.
A simplified procedure is in place for those who lost their ID as a direct result of combat: only an application and two photographs are required. Furthermore, service members released from captivity are exempt from submitting materials from an official investigation when applying for a new ID. This new regulation streamlines the document recovery process for those who served in combat operations.
This move by Ukraine's Ministry of Defense aims to ease administrative burdens for service members who have faced difficult circumstances, particularly due to combat.
Simplifying the process for obtaining a new ID can positively impact troop morale by safeguarding their rights and social guarantees. It is significant that the new rules account for the specific challenges faced by military personnel in wartime, which is a crucial aspect of upholding their legal status and protections.
