Jared Kushner Returns to Negotiations on Ukraine: What Role Does Trump's Son-in-Law Play.
According to ТСН: Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, is once again actively engaged in foreign policy and plays a vital role in peace negotiations aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to several former and current officials from the Trump administration, those closest to Kushner are confident that he is capable of solving seemingly intractable issues for brokering a deal.
Kushner is considered a more effective negotiator than Steve Witkoff, who has been criticized by many Ukrainian and European officials for being overly tolerant of Russian interests during the war.
“Kushner has a slightly better track record from the first administration,” said Ian Kelly, a career diplomat and former U.S. ambassador to Georgia.
He also noted that Trump and Witkoff often turn to Kushner for advice given his experience in complex negotiations.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott called Kushner a “world-class negotiator.” He emphasized that Secretary of State Marco Rubio is grateful to Kushner for his willingness to assist Trump in addressing challenging global issues.
In a recent interview, Kushner explained how he approaches diplomacy.
“What people call a conflict of interest, Steve and I call experience and the trusting relationships we have around the world,” Kushner noted.
It is known that Trump’s son-in-law does not receive a salary from the White House for his advisory work, which he performs as a private citizen.
White House advisor David Worthington stated that Kushner’s efforts for Trump “are carried out in full compliance with the law.”
“Given that Jared Kushner played a crucial role in the efforts that led to the historic Abraham Accords and other diplomatic successes in the first Trump administration, the president asked Mr. Kushner to be available when the president is engaged in similar efforts to establish peace in the world,” Worthington’s statement said.
Kushner and Witkoff met with Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev in Miami to discuss the latest proposals for ending the war in Ukraine. Putin’s special envoy noted that negotiations in the U.S. regarding the end of the conflict are proceeding constructively.
According to The Wall Street Journal, American businessman Steve Witkoff achieved a rapid diplomatic success despite lacking experience in geopolitics, due to the personal support of Donald Trump and the willingness of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Thus, Kushner’s active role in peace negotiations indicates a new phase in American diplomacy, which may impact the course of the conflict in Ukraine. Witkoff, who is often criticized for collaborating with Russia, receives new incentives thanks to the support of Trump and other key players on the international stage.
