Military on peace plan for Donbas: This is true capitulation.
According to ТСН: Ukrainian soldiers at the front are trying to return to peaceful life, but negatively perceive the possible abandonment of the territories in Donbas that they currently control.
Position of Ukrainian fighters
Sergeant Major Volodymyr Rzhavskyi, who serves near Pokrovsk and manages a drone unit, believes that a peace agreement involving retreat from Donbas is 'true capitulation.'
'There is nothing to discuss here. I oppose giving up those parts of Donetsk region that we still hold. Of course, this is a painful issue for me, because all this is happening in my small homeland,' he said.
According to him, the military leadership should explain why the Ukrainian army should leave its positions, including in his native region.
'If this is done without explanations, it will not be carried out. It is not the state leadership that is sitting in the trenches. It is our guys in the trenches. They have the right to decide,' Sergeant Rzhavskyi stated.
Rejection of territorial concessions
Ukrainian special forces soldier Oleksandr, who is fighting in the south, also speaks out against territorial concessions. He is confident that soldiers who risked their lives and lost comrades to stop the Russian advance will not leave positions in Donetsk region.
'I will not make assumptions about how people will behave if there is an order to retreat, but it is clear that it will not be taken positively,' he noted.
According to him, Ukraine should not rush into a peace agreement that equates to capitulation.
'If we don't stop them now, our children will have to do it, and we cannot allow that,' emphasized the special forces soldier.
Different opinions on the peace plan
Lieutenant Oleg Zontov, who has defended Ukraine since 2014, believes that the idea of a peace plan is positive, but abandoning control over territories that belong to Ukraine will be 'a very controversial decision' that may provoke outrage among the military.
Lieutenant Dmytro Melnyk, a former professional Paralympic athlete, expressed hope for peace and wishes to return to his family in Dnipro. He does not hide that there is a constant sense of fear of death in war, but considers the peace plan 'an unacceptable demand for the capitulation of his country.'
In the first version of the 'peace plan', which contained 28 points, it was stated that Kyiv should agree to significant territorial concessions in favor of Russia, including the transfer of the entire eastern part of Donbas, including non-occupied territories. In return, Moscow promises not to attack Ukraine or other European countries.
Negotiations took place in Geneva between delegations from Ukraine, the USA, and leading European countries, where the 28-point plan for ending the war was discussed.
Based on consultations, the parties prepared an updated framework document on ceasefire in Ukraine. The final decision and signing of the document is to take place after a personal meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved a new composition of the Ukrainian delegation to conduct negotiations with the United States, other international partners, and representatives of the Russian Federation with the aim of achieving a sustainable and just peace.
The positions of Ukrainian soldiers regarding the prospects for a peace agreement reflect deep concerns and a readiness to fight for their land. The fighters point out that hasty decisions could lead to serious consequences, as these territories are not just a landscape for them but a part of their history and identity. Whether the peace agreement can account for their needs and experiences is a question that will remain open as negotiations proceed.
