According to ТСН: In the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, a wedding celebration ended in tragedy: an explosion of a gas cylinder claimed the lives of at least eight people, including the newlyweds.
The incident occurred at night when the newlyweds, their relatives, and guests were sleeping in the house after the wedding banquet. The powerful explosion led to partial collapse of the building, resulting in seven people being injured and taken to the hospital.
Details of the tragedy
The father of the groom, Hanif Masiha, recounted that his son got married just a day before the tragedy. At the moment of the explosion, family members and guests who stayed overnight after the joyful celebration were present in the house.
Police confirmed that the explosion occurred in a residential area of central Islamabad. Government administrator Sahibzad Yousaf noted that reports of the incident came in early Sunday, and an investigation into the causes of the explosion is ongoing.
Government reactions
The explosion also damaged several neighboring houses. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed health services to provide comprehensive assistance to the victims. He also called for a thorough investigation into this incident.
According to police information, many Pakistani households use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders due to the unstable pressure of natural gas. These cylinders have repeatedly been the cause of fatalities due to gas leaks.
Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani, characterized the event as a "tragic disaster that turned a celebration into mourning," emphasizing the importance of strengthening safety controls.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with the use of gas cylinders in households.
