According to ТСН: Ukraine is forecasted to face unfavorable weather conditions due to the approach of an active cyclone from the southwest. After its passage, an invasion of arctic air from the northern regions is expected, leading to a significant drop in temperature.

Forecaster Natalia Ptukha from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center reported that the weather will deteriorate on January 8-9. The cyclone will affect the western, northern regions, as well as Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions, where snowstorms and strong winds are forecasted. The snow cover may increase by 15 cm, and in the northern regions up to 20 cm.

Expectations for the Future

From January 9, the cyclone will start to move northeast, but after that, the temperature in Ukraine will drop sharply due to arctic air. 'On January 10-11, an invasion of arctic air from the northern latitudes will occur,' said Ptukha.

Temperatures may drop to 14-20 degrees below zero in the western and northern regions, as well as in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy. In some areas, thermometers may drop to -23°.

'In Kirovohrad and Poltava regions, it will not be as cold at night and during the day - from -6 to -12°,' she noted.

In the southern part, particularly in the Dnipropetrovsk region, temperatures may fluctuate from -4° to +4° both at night and during the day.

'Such contrasts across Ukraine will persist,' the forecaster concluded.

Forecasters also previously noted that in January 2026, the average temperature would be below normal, and precipitation would not exceed established levels.

As reported, Europe was also struck by a severe snowstorm, which caused significant disruptions to transportation and the cancellation of dozens of flights in various countries, including France, the Netherlands, and Germany. As a result of the worsening weather conditions on the continent, at least six people have died.

Therefore, Ukraine should prepare for significant frosts and snowfall, which may affect the daily lives of the population. It is recommended to exercise caution on the road and avoid travel in difficult weather conditions. During this time, it is important to take into account the meteorological forecasts and plan your activities in advance.
