Ukraine's February Weather Outlook

According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is set for a period of severe winter weather, with significant precipitation, temperatures plunging as low as -14°C, and dangerously slippery roads. Conditions are forecast to deteriorate sharply on February 15 and 16, with heavy rain expected in some areas, potentially turning to wet snow, amid air temperatures ranging from -3° to +2°C. The night leading into Monday will see a further drop to between -5° and -10°C.

Vitaliy Pistryak notes that 'in the coming days, two southern vortices, charged with energy and Mediterranean moisture, will sweep over us and significantly worsen the weather.'

The cold will intensify on Monday and Tuesday. Thermometers are predicted to fall to between -9° and -14°C overnight, with daytime highs only reaching -2° to -7°C.

Forecast for the Following Days

Snow is forecast for February 18 against a backdrop of milder frosts. Furthermore, Pistryak states that 'Monday and Tuesday will be cold, as a Scandinavian anticyclone strengthens the frost.' A potential cold snap next week could create additional hazards for drivers due to icy road surfaces. This type of winter storm can disrupt travel and infrastructure across the region.

The significant worsening of weather conditions in Ukraine is likely to have serious consequences for transport infrastructure, notably increasing the risk of road accidents due to slippery conditions. In light of this, drivers are strongly advised to:

  • exercise extreme caution;
  • plan journeys in advance;
  • account for the adverse weather.

It is also crucial to monitor weather forecast updates closely, as the situation can change rapidly.
