Ukraine Braces for Hazardous Weather on February 2nd: -30°C Freeze and Icy Roads

According to TSN.ua: On Monday, February 2nd, Ukraine will continue to endure dangerously cold conditions, with severe frosts plunging temperatures as low as -30°C. Overnight lows across the country will range from -18°C to -23°C, posing significant health risks, especially for those spending extended time outdoors. This severe cold snap is part of a persistent winter pattern affecting Eastern Europe. In northern regions, temperatures will drop to -22°C…-27°C at night, rising only to -13°C…-18°C during the day.

In southern and southeastern Ukraine, overnight temperatures will be between -12°C and -17°C, falling to -6°C…-11°C in the daytime. The Crimea and Zakarpattia regions will see milder, yet still freezing, lows of -3°C…-8°C at night and highs of 0°C…-5°C during the day. A north and northeasterly wind blowing at 5–10 meters per second will exacerbate the chill, hindering any daytime warming.

Dangerous Glaze Ice Threatens Roads

Meteorologists are also issuing warnings for dangerous glaze ice forming on roads, which is expected to increase the number of injuries in major cities. Both drivers and pedestrians must exercise extreme caution, as the ice will make travel treacherous. The overall weather situation demands heightened vigilance to avoid hazardous incidents.

In response to the forecasted deep freeze and icy conditions, authorities are urging citizens to be careful, particularly when outside. It is crucial to monitor road conditions and avoid non-essential travel in dangerous areas to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. When possible, staying indoors is advisable, and if travel is necessary, using public transport—which is less susceptible to weather disruptions—is recommended.
