Occupants install cameras on all transport in TOT: goal of control.
According to inkorr.com: In the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the occupying administration is planning to equip all public transport with video surveillance cameras. This concerns not only Crimea but also the captured areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions. This was reported by the civil movement "Yellow Ribbon".
Activists note that the aim of this initiative is to strengthen control over the local population. According to their information, the corresponding order has already been sent to the occupying administrations of all occupied regions. The Kremlin allegedly ordered officials to find ways to reduce local budgets for the next year to redirect funds for the installation of surveillance systems.
What types of public transport will be equipped with video surveillance in Ukraine's TOT
Not only municipal transport will fall under the control of the occupants, but also private carriers. The plans include equipping even intercity minivans with cameras. According to "Yellow Ribbon", this step is yet another stage in the development of a system of total surveillance over the residents of TOT.
Activists emphasize that this project has nothing to do with security, for which it is being justified by Russian officials. It is an attempt to track any manifestations of discontent, resistance, or even ordinary conversations in public spaces.
Experience of Crimea with surveillance cameras in public transport
It should be noted that a similar surveillance system has already been functioning in Crimea since 2019 — the occupants have been installing cameras in large cities of the peninsula under the pretext of
"fighting crime". Currently, according to Ukrainian intelligence, these cameras are actively used to identify pro-Ukrainian activists and to document
"suspicious behavior"of citizens.
Thus, the Kremlin's plan to expand video surveillance to all occupied territories indicates an increase in repressive control aimed at intimidating the local population and suppressing any resistance.
Previously, it was reported that schoolchildren in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine face problems accessing free information due to new restrictions. Russian occupants for the presence of YouTube, Spotify, and VPN services in order to control their actions.
These innovations indicate a further escalation of repression in the occupied territories, where control over residents is becoming increasingly severe. The intensification of video surveillance reflects the desire of Russian occupants to avoid any manifestations of protests and the disclosure of truthful news that could impact their power in the region.
