Ukraine Braces for Winter's Deepest Freeze, with Northern Regions Facing -30°C.
Winter's Deepest Chill Descends on Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is forecast to experience the coldest temperatures of the winter season. The most severe conditions will grip the northern regions, where the mercury could plummet to -30°C. The Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts will be the epicenter of this cold wave, with air temperatures potentially dropping to between -28°C and -30°C on the night of February 3rd.
Temperatures in the northern districts of Sumy and Chernihiv regions are expected to hover around -28°C. This frigid air arrived with an anticyclone from the north, driving the significant temperature drop. A record low of -29°C has already been registered in the Zhytomyr region.
Anticipated Temperature Shifts
From February 7th, daytime temperatures are expected to rise to around 0°C or slightly above. In the Transcarpathian region and the south of the country, it will warm up to +6…+8°C, creating a stark contrast with the north. However, a new incursion of cold air is forecast for February 8th–9th, which could bring another wave of frost.
For context, the lowest temperature recorded in the Kyiv region was -32°C in 2012, while the all-time national low for Ukraine is -42°C, registered in Luhansk.
'Just two more days to endure. The frost will retreat, but not for long. From the 9th, cold air from the north will arrive once again.' — Meteorologist Natalia Holenia
The predicted freeze could have serious consequences for the population, especially in northern regions where temperatures may reach dangerous lows. Residents are urged to exercise caution and take measures to protect themselves from the cold.
Given the potential for another cold air invasion, it is crucial to monitor updated weather forecasts, as these temperature shifts could significantly impact daily life and public safety.
