The Most Prestigious Universities in Germany and Austria Leave Elon Musk's Social Network: What’s the Reason.
More than 60 universities and research institutions in Germany and Austria have decided to stop their presence on the social network Twitter in protest against Elon Musk's conversation with the leader of the 'Alternative for Germany' party, Alice Weidel. This became known from a DW report.
In a statement, more than 60 scientific and research institutions in Germany and Austria, including prestigious universities in Germany, declared that Twitter violates their principles.
'The exit is a consequence of the incompatibility of the platform's current orientation with the fundamental values of the involved institutions: impartiality, academic integrity, transparency, and democratic discourse,' the statement says.
The statement also noted that Twitter's algorithms enhance the spread of far-right content and suppress other views, making further use of the platform unacceptable.
The German government has also stated that Twitter and other social networks use algorithms that do not promote 'calm, objective, and balanced discourse, but rather tend to incite and polarize.'
It should be noted that Elon Musk's social network Twitter plans to charge a fee for user registration, which is expected to cost $8.
Additionally, Elon Musk intends to hide the date and time of posts displayed in the feed. He believes this will improve and clean up the interface of the social network. Twitter representatives have not yet commented on the plans regarding paid registrations and hiding post dates.
Currently, Elon Musk is focusing not on issues in the United States but on what is happening in Europe. He has made a series of controversial posts regarding German politics and has announced support for the far-right. He has also criticized Scholz, calling him an 'idiot' and 'trash' on social media.
