800 Kyiv Houses Without Stable Heating: Expert Warns of Deterioration.
According to ТСН: In Kyiv, about 800 houses remain without stable heating.
This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association, Stanislav Hnatyiev. The Troieshchyna micro-district has been hit hardest, where significant damage has been recorded near TEЦ-6. Restoration work is ongoing here.
“I do not want to specify exact timelines. The situation is complicated. We are trying to ensure heating provision as much as possible, but for now, 800 houses in Kyiv remain without stable heat,” said Hnatyiev.
The expert emphasized that the lack of emergency spare parts, dependence on electric energy for heating generation, and significant destruction of industrial facilities are hindering the recovery process. He also warned of a possible deterioration of the situation in the coming weeks due to the imbalance in the capital's heating network.
“We need to be ready for a difficult scenario. The heating network in Kyiv is unbalanced, and possible pipe breaks may occur. I personally saw pipe breaks in the Pechersk district, where heating networks raise sewer covers even under parked cars,” he explained.
Another problem has arisen with new residential complexes that depend on electric supply for pumping groups. This concerns 400–800 new buildings where it is impossible to lift the heat carrier and water to the upper floors without electricity. Responsibility for these systems lies with the homeowners' associations or management companies, which do not always have generators or backup power.
“Without powerful generators, it is impossible to provide either heat or water. Inverters with batteries discharge quickly, especially during prolonged outages and in frosty weather,” he added.
According to preliminary estimates, 1200–1300 high-rise buildings in Kyiv are at risk, out of over 8000 residential buildings in the capital. The timing of electricity supply for some of them will depend on schedules, while others rely on the work of emergency crews, of which about 200 are currently operating.
There is also a risk of failures in the operation of sewage pumping stations, which may lead to flooding of basements and underground parking lots.
“Without stable operation of the pumps, there is a danger of flooding with sewage. Last year in Kharkiv, 2.2 billion UAH was spent on generators for the water utility, while in Kyiv, this system is still inadequately protected,” summed up Hnatyiev.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko stated that repair and restoration work concerning heating continues around the clock.
It was previously reported that during the next week, there will be strict electricity outages in Kyiv, as severe frosts increase electricity consumption.
In the situation with heating and electricity supply, Kyiv faces serious challenges. Unpredictable weather conditions combined with the aging network require urgent actions to ensure stability. It is important for the relevant services to adequately address the problems and provide the city with the necessary resources.
