NATO must help Ukraine win, even with the presence of DPRK troops - Rutte.
NATO: Deployment of DPRK troops to Russia - significant escalation
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the deployment of DPRK military units to Russia for their participation in the aggressive war against Ukraine is a fact of significant escalation.
Under these circumstances, NATO allies must provide Ukraine with everything necessary to achieve victory in the fight against the Russian invasion even with the presence of North Korean troops on Russia's side, he said in Berlin during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reports Ukrinform.
"North Korean troops have been deployed in Russia against Ukraine, and this is a significant escalation. It makes us even more focused and committed to providing Ukraine with everything it needs to fight both Russia and the North Korean military," noted Rutte.
He reminded that Germany has already sent military aid to Ukraine worth €28 billion, putting this country in second place in terms of such aid after the USA.
"We must continue to work to accelerate our defense production and ensure that Ukraine can win and that Putin does not succeed in Ukraine," Rutte emphasized.
He noted that considering North Korea's actions, NATO is closely cooperating with Indo-Pacific partners to respond to the tension such actions cause. In particular, the Alliance is strengthening security ties with the Republic of Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
