The Kremlin Seeks to Create a Demographic Crisis in Ukraine - Portnikov

Ukraine is focused on preserving its territories, while the Kremlin is interested in another result - claims Vitaly Portnikov, a journalist for «Espreso». According to Portnikov, the Ukrainian-Russian war primarily affects the demographic situation. Ukraine must not only restore its territories but also preserve its population.

Comparing the war in Ukraine and the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Portnikov noted that Azerbaijan liberated part of its territories but did not lose its population. Ukraine, on the other hand, is in a difficult situation because the Russian leadership has a clear goal — to create unbearable living conditions for Ukrainians in order to reduce their numbers.

Portnikov assured that for Russia, the main goal is not to capture Ukraine, but to get rid of the Ukrainian population. He added that it would be sufficient for Russia to agree even with the fact of Ukraine's sovereignty and its accession to the EU and NATO, just to worsen living conditions and reduce the number of Ukrainians.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, spoke about the main points of his country's «victory plan», emphasizing that the Kharkiv operation of the AFU is part of this plan. It was also announced that President Zelensky's meeting with US presidential candidate Donald Trump will take place on September 26-27, as well as with candidate Kamala Harris.
