Ecologists sound the alarm: The Black Sea near Odessa is polluted due to decaying algae.
Ecologists have sent a letter to the city council of Odessa region regarding the problem of rotting algae along the coast. They demand additional research on the Black Sea to find ways to clean the water - reports the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western Region.
What ecologists propose
Experts have begun studying the ecosystem due to high levels of suspended substances and ammonium nitrogen. The results confirmed that the algae are decomposing, which leads to exceeding the permissible standards on the beaches. The inspection has appealed to the Odessa City Council to clean the coastline from excess vegetation.
To conduct additional water research, the inspection has reached out to the Ukrainian Scientific Center for Ecology of the Sea and the State Consumer Service in the Odessa region, - the ecologists' message states.
We remind you that recently we talked about the threat to water in Odessa due to the rotting of algae and the cost of recreation in the city in August.
Ecologists have started monitoring the state of the ecosystem due to exceeding ammonium indicators and the decay of algae along the coast. They urge the city council to take action to clear the coastline of excess aquatic plants.
